The town of Darien, CT celebrated their second year of Pride on June 11 in Tilley Pond Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The small town pride had a crowd of over 200 people enjoying food trucks and tents with shops and queer organizations.

The Pride event had a slow start until Darien native and up and coming New York City drag icon, Boxa Crayonz, walked around handing out little boxes of crayons. Genius. She wore an asymmetrical pink bodysuit with a strap on her right shoulder, leaving her left shoulder exposed, and a skirt on her right hip. She also had on thigh high black stockings with a black bow at the top, black fishnets, shiny black high heel boots, and a fluffy crimped light blonde wig with space buns in the front.

Crayonz’s first lip sync performance was to “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” by Tori Kelly. She high-kicked, twirled, and back bended in a high energy performance to bring some queer culture to a town like Darien. Funny side note, the host provided the audience with Crayonz’s Venmo for tips and advised the audience not to tip with cash. Not smart, but okay.

During a break before her second performance, United States Representative Jim Himes spoke for one solid minute saying how Connecticut will always support the LGBTQIA+ community. Then he left.

Boxa Crayonz blessed everyone with her presence once again but in a teased to high heavens black wig on lip syncing to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. The performance was one part theatrical and the other part comedy. She whipped her head revealing a short, shaggy black wig underneath. By the end of the performance, she takes off her wig to reveal her boy hair. The performance had many layers and the crowd loved it.

Afterwards, Crayonz performed “Rain On Me” by Lady Gaga featuring Ariana Grande. She mixed choreography from the song’s music video with her own dance moves and finally, the crowd started tipping her with cash just like how a proper drag show should be.
