Salina Estiddies fought a good fight, but the LA queen went home after her fourth time in the bottom two. To no surprise, drag delusion is back in full force when Loosey says she got great critiques for the Rusical and didn’t see herself in the bottom two.
On the couch where queens hashout their feelings after each challenge, Mistress says she was congenial on the mainstage by giving a pageant answer and choosing Sasha to go home when she could have been a bitch and chose Loosey. Luxx then says, “Everything I said on the runway is 110% how I feel,” referencing when she chose Loosey. Loosey says she can wholeheartedly disagree and that it’s not a bad thing that she’s very good at a lot of things. Okay girl.
The next day, RuPaul announces the mini challenge called “Spill the T.” The president of Anastasia Beverly Hills, Norvina, suddenly appears to count points for the game while in better drag than most of the queens this season. The queens are told to answer questions about their fellow cast members by holding up signs with their faces. To sum it up and save you some time: Mistress is voted for being funny, shady, hairy, and most likely to steal your makeup; Sasha is most likely to steal your man; Luxx is most likely to have a sugar daddy; and Loosey was voted smartest and the queen that will be going home next. Loosey voted for herself to win the mini challenge while ignoring the fact that she will most likely be going home this episode.
Ru introduces the maxi challenge this week: the makeover challenge. The queens will change the lives of teachers by putting them in drag and creating a strong drag family resemblance. The teachers introduce themselves: there’s Mrs. Marshbanks who teaches middle school humanities; Ms. Reyes teaches first grade; Mrs. Wallace teaches middleschool choir; Mrs. Mahoney teaches kindergarten; and Ms. Tang teaches high school art.
Since Loosey won the mini challenge, she gets to choose her teacher first and then assign the teachers to the other queens. Loosey chooses Mrs. Wallace because they already look related; Mistress gets Ms. Tang for size purposes and surprisingly doesn’t screw over Mistress; Anetra gets Mrs. Mahoney probably because they have the same skin tone; Sasha gets Mrs. Marshbanks, who is just as stunning as Sasha; and Luxx gets Ms. Reyes. Luxx thinks Loosey is trying to get revenge on her for not giving Luxx Mrs. Marsbanks, the only other black person in the room.
When Mistress is speaking with her teacher about how formative high school is, Ms. Tang shares that she is queer. Mistress says that she wishes she had someone like her when growing up who was able to be themselves because maybe students feel queer as well but aren’t able to be themselves at home. Her teacher says she was scared when she came out, but when a student tells her they feel safe in her class, it’s all worth it.
Sasha’s teacher is an adorable mother and is so down to be a “sexier girl” with her mentor and “wants the full padded dream.” Sasha says she never dabbled in padding because her body is already stellar, so they go with extremely exaggerated padding; very Mae West. Luxx’s teacher says she wants to be a queen, so Luxx thinks Ms. Reyes is giving her complete control of the makeover. But since she’s so focused on making the looks, she isn’t getting to know her teacher.
During the walkthrough with Loosey, Ru brings up that two contestants said she should go home. When Ru asks her what that did to her psyche she said, “I don’t give a shit.” But Luxx hilarisouly thinks Loosey is still bothered by what she said last episode.
Before leaving the Werkroom, Ru adds a twist. The queens have to prepare a lipsync for their lives but it’s for their teachers. Mrs. Marshbanks is inspired by vogue dancer Leiomy Maldonado, but Mrs. Mahoney can’t duck walk to no surprise because not everyone is supernaturally flexible like Anetra. For Luxx, she tells her teacher to just dance, but it’s the definition of awkward, no rhythm mom dancing.
While the girls paint their teachers’ faces, Anetra asks her teacher if homophobia and transphobia can be unlearned. Mrs. Mahoney says she thinks they can definitely unlearn it, “it’s just if they’re willing is the hard part.” Anetra adds that kids don’t come out of the womb hateful. Her teacher says people usually dismiss kids, but if they’re given the time and words to explain how they’re feeling it goes a long way.
Ms. Reyes asks Luxx if people gave her a hard time about doing drag. Luxx explains that because her parents aren’t religious, it was a surprise they were the ones who gave her pushback. They’d comment when she was flamboyant and say she’s not going to heaven because of it. Ms. Reyes was raised Catholic, but because she has queer kids, she stopped going to church. Luxx points out that parents who are religious will “put religion over everything, even the happiness or like respect of their kids.”
Then Ms. Tang asks how many wins the queens have, Loosey still mentions her mini challenge wins but Anetra even says, “I don’t know if mini challenges count.” Mistress then jokes to Loosey saying, “You girl looks … good,” referring to Gia Gunn’s shady comment on season six episode three.
With semi-famous lesbian singer and Celebrity Drag Race alum Hayley Kiyoko as a guest judge, the queens show off their makeover looks and performances. First up, Sasha Colby and Ferocity Colby are in pink carnation-leis-like flower patterned dresses, Sasha’s dress is longer and Ferocity’s version is shorter. They both have exaggerated padding, flowers in their fluffy ponytail wigs, and walk down the runway with swag and elegance. While Mrs. Marshbanks was already gorgeous, Sasha dragged up her makeup while working with her natural features.
Then Loosey and Lala LaDuca have basically the same faces painted on. Loosey’s wig is bigger than Lala’s, but their outfits are pretty cute. Loosey has on a red jacket and a dress with an early ‘90s beach umbrella pattern while Lala has a jacket made of Loosey’s dress pattern and a dress with Loosey’s red jacket fabric. Their synchronized walking at the beginning of the runway was a little impressive, but also robotic.
Mistress and Madame Thang are wearing dresses Mistress made the day before, which is very impressive. They both have on classic, body con gowns along with fabric boa’s; Mistress’ in mint green with a blond wig and Madame is in all black with a matching wig. Luckily, Madame has Mistress’ classic heavy drag makeup instead of her recent YouTuber-like simpler makeup.
Luxx and Asia Azul unfortunately flop. Asia is wearing a blue mermaid gown and a cape with a peach fabric lining and a blond wig. Luxx is wearing a tie around top and tie around skirt only made out of the same peach fabric, but with blue eyeshadow that is an attempt to tie both looks together.
Finally, Anetra and Alektra are wearing pink and black, ying and yang inspired, mandarin collared, one legged bodysuits where Anetra’s unexposed leg is black and Alektra’s is pink. A belt connects to their wrists that are drenched in broken jewlery. Anetra has a white jewel on her belly button while Alektra has a black jewel in the middle of her chest.
For the critiques, Sasha and Ferocity are very well received, with Michelle commenting on their synergy together. When Loosey is being critiqued, Hayley likes Lala’s energy but Michelle thinks they didn’t have fun. Mistress and Madame Thang have chemistry and it was very well choreographed. Luxx on the other hand, gets read for filth even though Asia Azul looks like Jennifer Coolidge. Asia Azul looked very nervous while on the runway and there is no family resemblance. Anetra and Alektra’s family resemblance on the other hand is spot on and they have no negative critiques.
The portion where the teachers lipsync is hard to watch but hey, let them have their moment. Ferocity and Lala lip sync separately from Alektra, Asia Azul, and Madame Thang to RuPaul’s song “Champion.” Alektra and Ferocity do a fantastic job, but they all survive … I don’t know what the purpose of that was.
While Sasha was close to yet another win, Mistress and her are deemed safe with Anetra getting her third win! She’s been excelling in the latter portion of the competition and Alektra wins $5,000 while all the teachers get a three night stay at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs.
Finally, this is the lip sync we’ve all been waiting for: Loosey versus Luxx. They have had drama for several episodes and now they’re battling it out in a performance. This is what gay drama is all about. Luxx stretches in front of Loosey to intensify the moment. Of course Loosey is shocked to be in the bottom, but Luxx wipes the floor with her in a high energy performance to “For the Girls” by Hayley Kiyoko. Luxx flips her hair, walks in front of Loosey, drags her body on the ground, and adds some exaggerated dance moves to win the lip sync.
It’s finally Loosey’s time to leave the competition, but during her exit message, she says “I feel a little slighted” and has to add that Mistress put a girl in a stretch dress, to add just a little shade before going home.
