“Bitch I’m rich, I got a lot of money!” Lala Ri exclaims entering the Werk Room after winning her first challenge in Drag Race history. Lala explains to the girls that it felt right to keep Alexis Michelle in the competition and send home Kahanna Montrese. Alexis says she’ll never forget this. Sure, Jan. Alexis takes out the lipstick votes from the voting box and Kahanna received four votes to go home while Alexis only received one.
The next day Jimbo shakes her legs so that bologna drops out of her shorts and proceeds to throw the coldcut at the queens. Ru enters the Werk Room to announce that the maxi challenge this week is to create a look from scratch worthy of the Drag Race All Stars hall of fame. The queens will have to choose looks from past All Stars winners. Since Lala won last week, she gets to assign the queens to their boxes of fabric where she chooses Shea Coulee for herself, Alexis gets Trinity the Tuck, Jessica Wild gets Kylie Sonique Love, Kandy Muse gets Monét X Change, and Jimbo gets Trixie Mattel.
As the queens are coming up with ideas for their looks, Jessica wonders how she can use Kylie’s seethrough inspired fabric for her own drag outfit since she isn’t usually as revealing. Jimbo talks about being bad at time management and is taking a while getting started because she’d rather chat with the queens. Lala talks about how her box reminds her of old school Atlanta drag but has no room to mess up since she’s not a seamstress. Alexis thinks Jimbo is a threat since she performs and turns a look because Jimbo is a costume designer, but she learned about sewing and patterning after going home on a design challenge on season 9.
Raven, from season two and Ru’s makeup artist, and Shannel, the original Drag Race diva of season one, enter the Werk Room to go over the queen’s creative process and stress them out. Jessica tells them she prefers to do something safe so she feels more comfortable in her looks. Alexis talks about how she knows she wasn’t voted by anyone to go home and feels good in this challenge because she can sew. Kandy seems prepared but Shannel asks who her biggest threat is, which is Jimbo. Lala says she wants to sew a gown but has never sewn a dress before and Shannel lightly pressures Lala to admit that Jimbo is her biggest competition.
While the queens sew and hot glue their looks together, Lala reminsces about not feeling up to par with the other queens on season 13 but after touring the world she knew her own self worth. Jimbo says she has a lot to do with two separate pieces to make and decides not to do her makeup to save time and Kandy thinks that’s a risk.
When the girls are preparing for the runway, Lala says to Alexis “And if you do win tonight, don’t forget about me,” and Alexis responds saying, “I won’t. You know I won’t. I told you I wouldn’t.” In her confessional, Lala says she knows Alexis has her back. Well maybe she wants you on your back?
Finally, Ru walks the runway in a striped pink mini dress with stripes hanging off her arms and collarbone and a very messy punk-meets-electricuted platinum white wig that has a mullet in the back. Okay girl. On the judges panel is Ross Matthews for god knows why, it’s almost like Carson Kressley is a stylist and would know better about a design challenge but what do I know. Oh yeah and the lead singer of Incubus, Brandon Boyd, is present looking like a hipster Jesus probably because no one of queer significance agreed to come.
The queens walk the runway for the “I’m A Winner Baby” category:
- Kandy Muse is up first in a black patent leather stripper dress with holter top straps. Her pink up do is cute, but it’s a lackluster and simple look.
- Jimbo is in another one of the best looks of the season. She’s in a pink and yellow floral patterned full bodysuit that covers her face and she has pearls in front of her eyes and in the shape of a smile. Over the bodysuit she has a shiny pink coat with massively puffed sleeves with a nipped in waist. And yes, the bodysuit is not sagging.
- Lala Ri is in a dress Ru probaby would’ve worn maybe seven or ten years ago. She’s in a form fitting orange stoned column gown, except it doesn’t touch the ground. It has one sleeve because she ran out of fabric, silver bordering the collar and wrist, and shoulder pads. Her orange wig is cute, but unfortunately it’s just a couple centimeters too high.
- Alexis Michelle is in a form fitting dark and light purple pageant patterned mermaid gown with a silver belt, indigo tulle train attached to her ass, and a purple feather crown that sits behind her light orange wig.
- Jessica Wild is in a yellow and green snakeskin single strap dancer dress with a shiny silver fabric cascading down from her left breast. The dress is fitted up to her hips and flows at the bottom so that every time she moves, the dress flares beautifully. And of course her brunette rooted ambre to blond wig is as nice as all of her wigs.
Kandy is critiqued for looking good but it’s very simple and she jokingly says she lost so much weight and grew taller overnight because the dress fit just fine the day before; Jimbo is praised for her amazing look because she sees the challenge through her own lens and Ru says this look exceeded her expectations; Lala is critiqued for the cut of the arm and neck and lacks a flare; Alexis is also praised for her look and blew away the judges and they see her improvement from season 9; and Jessica’s dress is called beautiful with the asymmetry and looks expensive and she jokingly says, “Please no more sewing challenges.”
Alexis Michelle is deemed the winner of this week’s challenge. Jimbo and Jessica are safe while Kandy and Lala are in the bottom two. When Alexis is going over which lipstick to choose, she dramatically crouches and groans “Oh my god.” The lip sync assassin this week is Nicky Doll from season 12 and the host of Drag Race France. They lip sync to “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” by Nancy Sinatra and it’s quite awkward to watch a song from the ‘60s mixed with splits and other drag moves. Alexis wins the lip sync and when talking about how hard this decision is, she says, “I’m not joking bitch,” and sends home Lala Ri. The backstab of the century.
