Now that only half of the girls are left in the competition, tension rises in the first few minutes of the episode. After Salina Estiddies wiped Spice’s lipstick message off the mirror, Marcia Marcia Marcia asks Sasha Colby how it feels to be the first person in the competition to win two challenges, with Luxx Noir London chiming in saying, “Tonight Sasha, you literally like peed on the stage.” Sasha replies, “Y’all should soak some of that up so ya’ll can get a win too.”
Little miss Loosey LaDuca decides to add some drag delusion to the congratulatory conversation: “I already won three.” To clarify, at this point Sasha Colby has won two maxi challenges and Loosey has only one win. Not only is it uncomfortable to watch someone try to flex and fail miserably, but she decides to take this time to snatch the spotlight from Sasha who rightfully won the design challenge. Mistress Isabelle Brooks, aka Pot Stirrer Supreme, immediately reacts saying, “Wow.”
In the interview chair, Loosey thinks people are forgetting how well she’s doing in the competition. Mistress asks her how she’s feeling and Loosey says she’s still feeling good, but Mistress and everyone else then laughs at her fake response. Side eyes were exchanged between the queens as Loosey says the judges liked her first and third looks, yet Loosey was in the bottom three. Mistress adds that Loosey is more competitive than she looks and that she is entering her bitch era.
Not caring for the conversation, Sasha asks Marcia how she’s doing. Marcia somehow thought she was going to be in the top despite being safe for the ninth time in a row. Yet another case of delusion. Loosey then gets Mistress’ attention so she’d go after Marcia in the same way she went after Loosey for being surprised she was safe. Mistress explains Loosey’s tactic out loud to Marcia, creating a second uncomfortable moment in just under four minutes into the episode. Fortunately, all of the immature behavior comes to an end with the use of TV editing.
The next day, RuPaul explains that for this week’s maxi challenge, they have to conduct one on one interviews with semi-famous celebrities. Marcia and Sasha will interview Charo; Anetra, Loosey, and Malaysia will interview Frankie Grande; and Luxx, Mistress, and Salina will interview Love Connie. RuPaul also adds that the runway category is Night of a Thousand Beyoncé’s.
Salina tries her best when interviewing Connie for the sit down portion, but her interviewee is all over the place. Since Salina has been in the bottom two twice, the audience can tell she is trying to redeem herself, but ends up cutting off Connie a couple of times instead of letting her talk in an improv-like manner. Personally, I just want Salina to let loose (pun intended) and not be so scared of the competition. When Luxx joins Connie on a golf cart ride in an empty parking lot, she knocks it out of the park. Luxx matches her interviewees’ energy immediately, saying: “I will drive this interview and this golf cart if I have to.” She even asked questions about her role in Legally Blonde, something I never knew about. Even though she’s sassy, Luxx keeps proving that she not only looks amazing every week, but that she’s very smart too. Then Mistress and Connie put icing on cupcakes and Mistress flops immediately. She cannot improv with Connie and only tries to ask questions she had already prepared. As soon as the challenge ends, she knows she needs to memorize the lip sync song.
Next is Sasha’s turn and she makes a salad with Charo. While most of us can barely understand Charo, she relates to Sasha since she used to live in Hawaii. Sasha goes with the flow of the conversation better than Lux when she throws her queue cards in the air and has a good time meowing, listening to how Charo got pregnant, and repeating something in Hawaiian that Charo insists Sasha repeat after her. During Marcia’s interview, we can tell she cannot understand Charo and the segment goes nowhere. While Sasha was able to relate to Charo, Marcia proved that she is stale.
Despite making a fool of herself at the beginning of the episode, Loosey does a fantastic job with the sit down interview with Frankie Grande. She knows how to be an over the top version of Barbara Walters mixed with Joan Rivers. The only thing it lacks is fluidity. Anetra does a serviceable job, but kind of forgettable. Malaysia bombs just as badly as Mistress. Frankie puts on an Italian accent as they make pizzas. Malaysia can’t laugh at any of his jokes and it seems like Frankie is interviewing Malaysia.
On the main stage, RuPaul is there because it’s her show, along with Michelle Visage and returning guest TS Madison. Finally, no Ross Matthews or Carson Kressley.
Time for the best part of the show, the runway:
- Lux wears a Bob Mackie recreation that Beyoncé wore at the 2006 Kennedy Center honoring Tina Turner. Her red and orange fringe shines just like Queen Bee.
- Mistress does her own spin on the 2001 Grammy Awards look with the iconic green dresses Destiny’s Child wore, but Kelly Roland and Michelle Williams are puppets on Mistress’ shoulders.
- Salina wore Beyoncé’s 2004 Grammy Awards yellow-gold dress and used RuPaul’s Chia Pet heads as the Grammy gramophones.
- Sasha wears a direct replica of Beyoncé’s ensemble at the 2006 BET Awards. She perfectly matched the hair, dress color, body oil, and body appliqué. She says, “I’m giving you body-ody-ody because no one else can,” and that is a fact.
- Marcia has the worst look of the night. It’s a look from the Tidal x Brooklyn 2017 Charity Event where Beyoncé looks effortlessly stunning in a green dress with an asymmetrical cut on the chest. But Marica needs to contour just a bit more and there is no asymmetrical aspect to the look, it’s just boxy and drab.
- Anetra does her On the Run Tour look with a short gold dress with beautiful line work and an opulent purple cape. Their hair style and sunglasses match too, was it that hard to do Marcia?
- Malaysia also does a direct replica of the 2018 Global Citizens Festival black and white look with feather sleeves and intricate white detailing on her shorts.
- Finally the last look of the night, Loosey wore her version of Beyoncé’s 2011 VMA’s look where she announced her pregnancy in a beautiful purple-pink suit. While Loosey calls the look iconic, she doesn’t have the iconic part of the look which is the baby bump.
Marcia and Anetra are deemed safe, somehow Marcia dodged critiques despite having the weakest look and one of the worst performances of the night. I guess they couldn’t let Anetra sit alone during Untucked, so they needed to have something for her to do.
Luxx, Sasha, and Loosey are in the top this week. RuPaul tells Luxx that her look tonight is a Bob Mackie dress she also wore in the early ‘90s; she praised Sasha for letting loose during the interview as well as her generosity and her look tonight; and as for Loosey, Michelle tried to compliment her look on the runway, but RuPaul wanted Loosey to do more during the interview.
TS Madison was disappointed in Mistress’ performance with Love Connie, I think we all were, but her Destiny’s Child look was fantastic. Michelle tells Salina she looks very pretty tonight, but focused on the fact that she interrupted Love Connie a couple of times. TS Madison compared Salina’s face showing that she was in her head to dealing with ugly “trade.” While Malaysia looked beautiful on the runway, she was critiqued for letting Frankie Grande interview her.
Sasha then wins her third win in the competition and her second win in a row! This moment was foreshadowed in the beginning of the episode with Loosey pulling a Jan, where both queens showed a sour face for thinking they won the challenge, but were only safe. Oh well, she can keep digging herself into a hole or let it go and try to win the next challenge because Sasha is taking over the competition.
Malaysia and Salina lip sync to “Single Ladies” by Beyoncé, but I think we all know it should have been Mistress up there instead of Salina. Not only would it be for closure between the Malaysia and Mistress drama, but because she also had the worst performance in the challenge. I’m guessing her Destiny’s Child look saved her from being in the bottom. But Salina comes out victorious for the third time and sent Malaysia packing.
With Sasha as a clear frontrunner, I can only hope she keeps up the astounding work while everyone else tries to keep up with her.
