The season 15 finale has arrived after 12 queens were eliminated and the top four are ready to fight for the crown. But let’s be honest, the finale is mostly a “let me show off this really expensive look” event and that’s why I love it.
The finale begins with the queens walking down the runway in the order they were eliminated in:
First up is Irene Dubois in a butterfly look with wings made out of mixed pink, green, and yellow feathers, a green stoned bodice, and skirt with ostrich feathers added to make it look like grass. She also has two big feathers in her hair imitating antennas with heavy pink contour especially on her forehead. To top it off, she throws paper butterflies, referring to Asia O’Hara’s butterfly massacre lip sync performance from the season 10 finale.
Princess Poppy is in a Regina Geoge from Mean Girls cosplay, specifically her prom look after getting hit by a bus. She’s quite spot on, the back brace that connects from her hips to the top of her head is bedazzled with a flower crown on top and a fashionable long fuchsia dress.
Sugar is in a blue and white gown with wing-like appliques cascading down the dress. She also has matching fingerless gloves, a chiffon cape, and shiny blue hair. It’s giving angle.
Amethyst is going with a teen pop singer look, for some reason. On top, she’s wearing a mix of skin tight black mesh, opaque pink, and black fabrics with a big pink and black striped tulle skirt on the bottom. There are sparkley and shiny stars randomly throughout it and unfortunately, she takes off the skirt to reveal non-padded pants with similar patterns from the top. She has a face mic on so at least it’s supposed to be campy.
Robin Fierce looks stunning in a black and white gown with a black tulle mermaid cut. There are black lines in all the right places: her thighs, hips, and bodice as well as the off the shoulder collar. Her dreadlock updo adds some edge to a rather classic look.
Aura Mayari is in yet another all black look. It seems like the two or three from her season wasn’t enough. She has on a mesh dress, bra and panty, giant necklace, three quarter length arm sleeves that also looks like a shawl, black gloves, and oh wait! A white and black wig. At least she pulls out a massive fan that says, “DRAG IS NOT A CRIME,” but unfortunately the font is a little hard to read.
Jax is in an all denim dance costume that has the bodice, peplums, thighs, shins, forearms, gloves, upper arms, and shoe pieces as separates. It’s interesting to say the least. What’s supposed to be a cape is a small piece of the same denim fabric. At least the denim pieces are lined with orange for some contrast.
Spice is in a devil look. The twins are always coordinated. She’s in an all red, asymmetrical dress that exposes basically her whole right leg, her shoulders are padded, and there is red stone detailing throughout the whole dress and long sleeves. Her makeup is white for a vampire affect along with a dark red wig. Unfortunately, her devil’s staff looks like it was cut in half.
Malaysia Baby Doll Foxx is in a red velvet gown that has random almost tentacle-like three dimensional work coming out of her left hip and breasts. Her ostriche feather and silk shawl does touch the floor, making it regal and expensive.
Marcia Marcia Marcia finally looks great. She’s also in all red with a Dior-like puffed out skirt, line work on the bodice, and a see through red bowl hat. She looks like she came out of a ‘50s movie, but she does need a real nose contour though.
Salina EsTitties does what she does best, too much. Paying homage to her culture, she’s in an exaggerated quinceañera dress. Fushia, light pink, magenta, beige and purple are incorporated in the ribbon work, tulle flowers throughout the piece, and tulle ass cake. That’s right, the back of her dress looks like a slice was taked out of her ass exposing a fake four layer cake.
Loosey LaDuca thinks it’s Halloween up in here. She’s wearing a black lace gown with exposed ribs and dangling green jewellery to make the ribs look like they’re decaying. Her face is stark white with black lips and eye makeup. The head piece is the best part with a cage exposing her brain. She bows down meniacly to make sure we all see it.
Finally, our top four:
Anetra is wearing a Mortal Kombat-like look. She has on long red silk sleeves and skirt with a black corset and huge pointy shoulder pieces, very Admiral Zhao, if you know what I mean. For the finale though, it’s not much.
I don’t know if something happened that crushed her look during the delivery process, but Luxx has a pink ostrich feather headpiece and skirt but they look like the saddest ostrich feathers. There is no volume and it looks wet or burnt. At least her feather bodice and the back of her pink skirt looks nice.
Mistress is wearing a liquid looking coral pink mermaid gown with gold accents and appliques on the mermaid piece, bodice, gloves, and breasts. Her strawberry blonde updo is also spectacular.
Then Sasha Colby shuts the whole place down. This is the best red look of the night, the other girls probably feel embarassed. Stoned, seethrough tulle covers her entire body; there’s a shiny corset underneath; her ass is basically out; tulle off the shoulder collar; latex gloves; a tulle hat that looks like a giant flower; and to top it all off she’s using a tulle umbrella as a cane. She looks like she just won at the Kentucky Derby. Her Miss Continental presence shows when she makes the crowd lose it by slamming her umbrella on the ground three times like she’s commanding everyone as her peasants. At the end of the runway, she tilts her head back because she knows everyone is eating this up.
RuPaul is there because she has to be and I don’t know if Zaldy was sick that week, but her yellow and gold column gown looks like crap. It does not fit well and there’s no pazaz to it. Instead it looks like someone said, “Oh wait lets throw these gold streamers on here.” One thing she does well is shout out clubs throughout the midwest and put a QR code on the screen throughout the episode to support the ACLU Drag Defense Fund.
Each finalist has to perform a solo lip sync number, then the final two will lip sync against each other. Before their solo numbers, they have short interview sessions where they talk about their progress on the show and why they made it to the finale.
Anetra’s orignal song is called “Lotus.” For her performance she has on a skin toned cat suit with white fabric, pink lotus’, and crystal detailing throughout it. Her dancing is athletic but honestly nothing too special. Afterwards, Ru speaks with her dad who admits that he likes to wear Anetra’s long wigs.
When Luxx is talking about her journey, it’s pretty funny because there’s a scene where she’s in a bikini with a massive paper mache head on. Her original song is called “It’s Giving Fashion,” which is a generic song about being a fashion queen. She’s in an all red latex catsuit that gets ripped off of her to reveal thigh high boots and her arms… She dances pretty well but the back up dancers seem to be doing most of the work. Ru speaks with her mom about how Luxx gets her creativity from her family. Luxx’s boyfriend talks but it’s a mess of him crying and saying how much he loves her.
There’s a random tribute to Bob Mackie, who was the first guest judge on Drag Race. He is given the first “Giving Us Lifetime Acheivement Award.” Bob Mackie has been a living legend since the ‘70s with nine Emmy awards, but it was probably nice to have given him some air time.
Mistress performs her song called “Delusion.” She’s in a latex white and red nurse look, which is a read on its own because saying “nurse” near someone means they need help. She dances around and at one point the dancers pick her up so she can do a split in the air. But honestly her dancing is lackluster as well. Ru then chats with her drag mom and drag legend, Chevelle Brooks, who jokingly says Mistress’ softer side are her pads but then says Mistress made her proud.
Sasha Colby looks the best in her interview look, in a white blazer and straight auburn hair with the perfect amount of volume. Her other look in this montage clip package is a catsuit that looks like she came out of a volcano covered in lava and black rocks. The original song she’s performing is called “Goddess.” Her performance is very Medusa. She’s carried by the dancers because she starts off with no legs. They hold her up giving a very satanic vibe, take off her snake tail, then all hell breaks loose in a good way. She outdances the back up dancers, references her winning Miss Continental dance performance where she used her hair breads as leashes on her dancers. But instead she uses her Mesuda braids for the dancers to grab onto and move around. She also references her head crack deathdrop move from her acting challenge win from the “All Queens Go to Heaven” episode. Oh yeah, Ru is there. Forgot. Ru speaks with Sasha’s chosen family Clint Clarke and Laurel Thompson about Sasha being the best.
Ru announces that Anetra and Sasha make it to the final lip sync for the crown. Luxx and Mistress, probably see you both on All Stars 9.
Then there’s a short video including some famous people and drag race alum then random people like a cop and a priest talking about why drag is important and how it isn’t a threat to society. Afterwards, Orville Peck and Leland sing “Built on Drag” from “Wigloose: the Rusical” and all the eliminated queens join on stage for some light choreography in a half circle.
Willow Pill then arrives in her coronation look as a pink willow tree with branches coming out of her wig and the dress is also stunning. Unfortunately, we have to sit through a performance from season 14 Miss Congeniality winner, Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté, doing an Ariana DeBose inspired rap about the season 15 queens. Once that is done, Malaysia Baby Doll Foxx is crowned Miss Congeniality and wins $10,000. All the other queens receive $2,000 each, which is quite nice.
All Stars 7 and season 5 winner, Jinx Monsoon, then brings some class to the show by performing her immensely successful solo peformance of “When You’re Good to Mama” from her run on Broadway’s musical “Chicago.” This is probably the best performance in Drag Race history. Her voice is otherwordly.
For the final lip sync, Anetra and Sasha perform to Amii Stewart’s version of “Knock on Wood.” Anetra is in almost the same thing she wore earlier, instead it’s a bejeweled catsuit with a rhinestoned heart. Sasha starts off wearing a massive, coat dress that looks like the coziest blanket ever. Sasha immediately takes off the coat to reveal a crystal encrusted purple dress with a purple and pink tulle mermaid cut on the bottom. She pulls on a string in the center of her corset that makes the dress detach to reveal into a bikini including silver and purple crystals covering her breats, I mean come on! Anetra takes off the heart which reveals into a ribbon, but it should have been detachable so she could do more than just swing it around. By the end of the performance, Sasha is laying on the coat while smacking her ass during the “you better knock knock knock, on wood” parts of the song. Ru is laughing when Sasha is completely mudering the performance.
Sasha Colby is then crowned the winner of season 15! She wins $200,000 as well as a crown and septer provided by Fierce Drag Jewels, and a year’s supply of Anastasia Beverly Hills cosmetics. Sasha says in her speech: “This goes to every trans person, past, present, and future because we are not going anywhere.”
All hail our current reigning trans goddess queen, Sasha Colby!
